Your questions answered

I believe in clear communication and ensuring you have all the information you need. From preparing for your appointment to understanding our unique mobile service, discover everything you need to know about ear wax removal with The Ear Queen Teesside.

What should I do prior to my appointment?

To prepare for your ear wax removal appointment, we generally recommend using ear drops for a few days beforehand to soften the wax. Specific instructions will be provided upon booking. If you have any concerns, please contact me directly.

Should I contact my GP?

In most cases, you do not need to contact your GP before booking an ear wax removal appointment with us. However, if you have any underlying ear conditions, recent ear infections, or other health concerns, it is always wise to consult your GP first.

Should I try to remove ear wax myself?

No, we strongly advise against attempting to remove ear wax yourself with cotton buds or other objects. This can push the wax further into the ear canal, potentially causing damage or making removal more difficult. Always seek professional help for safe and effective ear wax removal.

How often should I have ear wax removed?

The frequency of ear wax removal varies from person to person. Some individuals may only need it every few years, while others, particularly those prone to excessive wax buildup, might benefit from annual or bi-annual treatments. We can advise on the best schedule for you during your consultation.

What methods can be used to remove ear wax?

At The Ear Queen Teesside, we use safe and effective methods for ear wax removal, including microsuction and irrigation, depending on your individual needs and the type of wax. We will discuss the best option for you during your appointment.

Do you come to my own home?

Yes, my unique mobile service means I can provide ear wax removal in the comfort of your own home or in a residential setting, such as a care or residential home. I offer this unique 'at home' service across Middlesbrough and the surrounding Teesside area. This service is an optional extra to my home based clinic in Marton

Will the procedure hurt?

Ear wax removal is generally a comfortable procedure. You may experience some mild sensations or a feeling of pressure, but it should not be painful. As a qualified nurse I will ensure your comfort throughout the process.

Will I have to have more than one appointment?

In most cases, ear wax can be successfully removed in a single appointment. However, if the wax is particularly hard or impacted, a follow-up appointment,  may be recommended to ensure complete and safe removal. This will be discussed with you during your initial visit. In most cases a follow up appointment will not incur an extra charge.
